WSET's Level 2 Award in Wines is a beginner- to intermediate-level qualification exploring wines, suitable for industry professionals and wine enthusiasts.

Who Is It For

Consumers who have a serious interest in wine as well as wine trade professionals working in the wine and hospitality industries looking to learn more about wine, wine regions and production. No previous wine study is required, however WSET Level 1 Award in Wines is helpful. Upon successful completion you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin.

What you'll learn

WSET Level 2 Award in Wines Course is focused on all the major, and some minor, grape varieties as well as the major wine regions of the world. You’ll learn about their characteristics, the styles of wine they produce, and how to distinguish wine style and quality based on labels and wine terminology. This course will also include in depth information on viticulture (growing of grapes) and vinification (wine production) as well as sparkling and fortified wines. You’ll also learn the proper tasting procedure and how to analyze and decipher wines using the Systematic Approach to Tasting.

What You Need to Know

Class Format

Level 2 Award in Wines Online Course is a 5-week, 6-module online self-study program with a recommendation of 6 hours of online activities and textbook study per week. You’ll study under the support of our experienced educators who will provide feedback on assignments, review your coursework and answer any and all questions along your Level 2 Award in Wines journey. There are a number of wines that are advised to taste throughout this course (aside from our WEX Level 2 Sampler which will be used for the optional Virtual Guided Wine Tastings), which will be your responsibility to purchase. Many can be found here at Wine Express.

Exam Format

One-hour exam consisting of 50 multiple choice questions. Your exam will take place via secure remote online proctoring on a specific day and time. You need to take your exam in a private environment of your choice using a desktop or laptop computer AND your cell phone.

The exam will tentatively take place on July 28, 2022*

Exam orders are placed 21 days prior to the exam date and you cannot change the date once that order has been placed with the WSET. Results take 6-8 weeks to be released by WSET.

If you are unable to take the exam on the date listed, you may request to reschedule your exam date with three week's notice to wset@wineenthusiast.net. Failure to do so will result in a re-sit fee of $175.

You may schedule an in-person paper exam in NYC by withdrawing from your scheduled remote exam with three weeks prior notice and requesting an alternate exam format and date.

Please note that online classes require separate purchase of wine for tasting. We have a special exclusive WSET Level 2 Award in Wines tasting sampler available at our wine shop partner which will represent a portion of the recommended wines to be tasted for this course. Purchases of the sampler also includes two virtual live guided tastings with our Wine Enthusiast Academy Course Educators.
